Fear factor
By Craig Tello
Written: August 2, 2007Psychologists argue that like many other basic emotions, fear is innate within all human beings. But is fear truly a factor when the individuals in question – Big Daddy V and Boogeyman – are as close to inhuman as sports-entertainment can offer?

Weeks ago, Big Daddy V usurped ECW and boldly targeted Boogeyman, damaging him unlike ever before. For the first time, the worm-gulping Superstar was the “stalkee” as the quintessential one-man gang known as Big Daddy V showed he was not afraid and suddenly himself became a symbol of fear to the ranks of the extreme brand.

With the return of Boogeyman on Tuesday night, however, a showdown between two of the most dread-inducing ECW Superstars was on the verge of exploding live on Sci Fi. Now, boasting an even more nightmarish grin and pitch-blackened pupils, the man from the Bottomless Pit made his reemergence in the Land of the Extreme to confront his newest enemies. Though the unlikely tandem of Big Daddy V and the Extreme Educator retreated from the red smoke engulfed ring area, fear still did not exactly seem to materialize upon the face of ECW’s largest menace (though Matt Striker may have soiled his twill pants).

“Fear is a human emotion,” explained Striker, as he stood dwarfed beside his immense associate. “Now take a look at Big Daddy V – he may appear to be human, but have you ever met any man that looks like he does?”

The size of a small automobile (likely produced in Europe), the mastodon in all black is an awesome sight in the most literal sense. Big Daddy V’s girth is not only intimidating, but also an indication of what physical anguish awaits his opponents. Along with that projected anguish, he has also quite literally plowed through all competitors put in his path – to date, exactly six men in just three ECW on Sci Fi matches.

“I’m here to become the most unstoppable force in WWE,” bellowed the 500-pounder. “I’m Big Daddy V. That name is going to reign supreme. No fear. No jokes. Only breaking necks and cashing checks.”

As they mend their near cracked ribs and heal their compacted bodies, Big Daddy V’s recent opposition will confirm that the threat of this quarter-ton Superstar far surpasses intimidation; it’s very, very real. In a matter of weeks, the 22nd letter of the alphabet has come to represent “vile,” “vicious” and (naturally) “voluminous” in ECW.

The trepidation instilled by Big Daddy V is certainly unique from the terror that chills the bones of Boogeyman’s prey. Still, the wily and slithering Superstar who was spewed from the depths of the Bottomless Pit onto WWE is not to be taken lightly. Since his arrival in WWE, Boogeyman has forged his own formidable list of victims, including former World Champions JBL and King Booker.
Behind the eerie scarlet lighting, jittery stride and mouthful of night crawlers, Boogeyman is a fierce athlete capable of doling out ample physical punishment to his adversaries. Once he penetrates the psyche of his foe, Boogeyman employs brute force to dismantle the enemy – leaving scars both mental and physical.

Knowing that, can even Big Daddy V maintain his cool amidst the heat and wretched scent of ground worms exhaled by a creature like Boogeyman breathing down his neck?

As always, Striker is ready with the answer, aimed to educate.

“Big Daddy V is the new root of terror in ECW,” claimed the intolerant teacher. “Get it? Got it? Now, before it’s all good, the only thing you need to fear is the V.”
